My Sunday afternoon at Fujiyoshida's Hataori-Machi Festival, 18 October 2026: tufted mats and tableware on the streets around Gekkoji, South Indian meals at Kariamudhu, very little English guidance, and Mt Fuji in view.
A November-to-February plan without a car, built around the morning, when Mt Fuji is most often visible: the ropeway (closed 7–18 December 2026, planned) and the Oishi Park boat on day one, the 05:18 train to the Chureito Pagoda for sunrise on day two, then Oshino Hakkai and Lake Yamanaka, with the timetables and fares as published on 11 October 2026.

Momiji (紅葉) means the red and yellow leaves of autumn and, by extension, the maple. Where the word comes from, how it differs from kaede, the maple poems of the Hyakunin Isshu, hanafuda's deer and the slang word shikato, and the difference between Lake Kawaguchi's Momiji Corridor and Momiji Tunnel.
Haneda's direct bus to Kawaguchiko costs ¥3,300 and Narita's ¥6,000, and each airport lists only two a day. The times, the Shinjuku routes, the last scheduled connections of the night and the buses back to each airport.
