Fujikyu Passes 2026: Prices, Coverage and Which to Buy

Compare Fujikyu's main visitor passes, check the cost of stopovers, and decide whether separate train or bus fares are cheaper for your route. The ¥2,400 1-Day Free Pass is valid for one day; an Otsuki–Kawaguchiko return is ¥2,340 by paper ticket or ¥2,322 by IC card.

Fujikyu’s ¥2,400 1-Day Free Pass is valid for one day. Its English summary says two, but the validity field on the same page says one. For a direct Otsuki–Kawaguchiko return, ordinary fares are cheaper: ¥2,340 by paper ticket or ¥2,322 by IC card. The pass saves money only when the rides you plan add up to more than ¥2,400. I live in Fujiyoshida, on the line. Below is which pass suits which trip, then what the official pages say, the fares and the sums.

1-Day Free Pass¥2,400one day only; online e-ticket; local trains Otsuki–Kawaguchiko
2-Day Free Pass¥2,500the start day and the next day; online e-ticket

Which Fujikyu pass should you buy?

Add up the rides you actually plan, then compare. These are the common cases; the sums behind them are further down.

Direct return by local train, Otsuki–Kawaguchiko

No pass: ¥2,322 by IC card or ¥2,340 with paper tickets, against ¥2,400 for the 1-Day pass.

Day trip via Shimoyoshida to Kawaguchiko

The 1-Day Free Pass saves money only if your rides add up to more than ¥2,400. Otsuki–Shimoyoshida–Kawaguchiko–Otsuki is ¥2,460 by paper ticket, so it saves ¥60. An Otsuki–Shimoyoshida return alone is ¥1,960: no pass.

Rides on two days

Compare your journeys with the ¥2,500 2-Day Free Pass. A direct Otsuki–Kawaguchiko return is still cheaper, even across two days; extra rides can tip it. If you will also ride the Panoramic Ropeway, the ¥2,700 Rail & Rope Coupon beats an Otsuki return plus a ropeway ticket (¥3,340).

Otsuki–Kawaguchiko return on the Fujisan Express or Fujisan View Express

The ¥3,000 Limited Express Free Pass saves ¥140 against paper-ticket fares and express supplements totalling ¥3,140, using unreserved car 3 both ways. For shorter journeys, compare the actual fares and supplements before buying: an Otsuki–Shimoyoshida return by express comes to ¥2,760, less than the pass.

Arriving at Kawaguchiko by highway bus

Choose by where you will go. Compare individual bus fares with the ¥1,500 one-day or ¥2,000 two-day sightseeing-bus pass, and buy a rail ticket separately for a short train trip, such as ¥310 to Shimoyoshida.

Riding the Fuji Excursion

A pass covering Otsuki–Kawaguchiko pays the base fare for that section; the Fuji Excursion express ticket is extra (¥600 for Otsuki–Kawaguchiko). The Passport bus set and All-Inclusive Ticket cover only Shimoyoshida–Kawaguchiko, so travel beyond that section also needs a separate fare. With a Japan Rail Pass, pay the Fujikyu fare and the express charge; with a JR TOKYO Wide Pass, nothing more for an ordinary-car seat.

Is the Fujikyu 1-Day Free Pass valid for one day or two?

Every validity field I found for this pass, on Fujikyu’s pages and on its sales page, says one day. The two-day wording is in two English summaries. This is what each page said when I checked on Wednesday 7 October 2026.

1 day or 2 days? What the official pages say

  • Japanese ticket list and pass page, summary: 「富士急行線が1日間乗り降り自由となるお得なきっぷです。」 (“a good-value ticket for one day of unlimited travel on the Fujikyu line”). Japanese validity field, 有効期間: 「利用開始日のみ」, only the day you start using it.
  • English summary, on the discount-ticket list page and again on the pass page: “This is a great value ticket that allows unlimited rides on the Fujikyu Railway Line for two days.” Both continue: “It’s very convenient for day trips.”
  • English pass page, separate “Valid period” field: “Only on the start date of use”.
  • Fujiyama Connect sales page, where Fujikyu’s pass page sends you to buy it: 「大月駅から河口湖駅まで、富士急行線の普通列車が1日乗り放題になるフリーきっぷです。」, a pass for unlimited rides on local trains between Otsuki and Kawaguchiko for one day. Its expiry field, 有効期限, says 「指定日のみ」, the specified date only.
  • The flyer printed on both language versions of the pass page: 「1日富士急行線(大月~河口湖)が乗り放題!」, one day of unlimited rides between Otsuki and Kawaguchiko.

So the validity fields in both languages and the sales page all say one day, and only the English summaries say two. I found no published rule stating which wording takes precedence, so plan on one day. If the wording you see differs, ask Fujikyu on 0555-73-8181 (8:00 to 18:00) or at a station window before buying. If you want two days, the 2-Day Free Pass is ¥2,500.

The Rail & Rope Coupon’s “two days” is correct: both language versions say the day of first use and the following day. The English pages have other slips. On the Fuji-Q Highland set ticket, the special price runs “Until September 2026, 11” in English and until 30 November 2026 in Japanese, and the Limited Express Free Pass page calls the Fuji Tozan Densha sightseeing train (suspended until further notice) “the Fujisan Railway”.

Which Fujikyu passes can visitors buy in 2026?

The Fujikyu line runs 26.6 kilometres from Otsuki, where it meets JR’s Chuo Line, to Kawaguchiko. It is operated by Fujisanroku Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (富士山麓電気鉄道), part of the Fujikyu Group, and is commonly known as the Fujikyu line. These are the main products on Fujikyu’s own ticket pages for visitors; the others are commuter and local tickets. Prices are for adults, with the child price in brackets.

What do ordinary Fujikyu fares cost?

Without a pass you pay per ride, with a paper ticket or by tapping an IC card. Fujikyu accepts Suica, PASMO and the other nationwide IC cards, and its IC fares are the same or a few yen lower. Ordinary tickets do not allow stopovers (the one exception: a through ticket connecting the Fujikyu and JR lines can be broken at Otsuki if you ask the staff): if you get off at Shimoyoshida, the rest of the ticket is collected, and Fujikyu says IC journeys cannot be broken either. A break in the trip means paying two fares.

JourneyAdult fare, paper ticket (IC card)
Otsuki–Kawaguchiko¥1,170 (¥1,161) one way; return ¥2,340 (¥2,322)
Otsuki–Shimoyoshida, for Chureito Pagoda¥980 (¥977) one way; return ¥1,960 (¥1,954)
Otsuki–Fujisan¥1,040 (¥1,039)
Shimoyoshida–Kawaguchiko¥310 (¥305) one way; return ¥620 (¥610)
Fujisan–Kawaguchiko¥230 (¥224)
Fuji-Q Highland–Kawaguchiko¥180 (¥173)

Child paper-ticket fares are half the adult fare, rounded up to the next ¥10. Child IC fares come from a separate table in ¥1 units: Otsuki–Kawaguchiko is ¥590 for a child by paper ticket or ¥580 by IC card. The walk from Shimoyoshida Station up to the pagoda is in our Chureito Pagoda access guide.

A single railway track with overhead wires runs between low buildings towards Mt Fuji, its snowy upper slopes tinted pink by the early sun.
The Fujikyu line at dawn on 5 February 2026. With ordinary tickets or an IC card, a sightseeing stop that ends your journey at an intermediate station means paying separately for the next leg.

When does the 1-Day Free Pass pay off?

These sums use Fujikyu’s fare table, with adult paper-ticket fares unless marked IC.

Straight there and back: no

Otsuki to Kawaguchiko and back is ¥2,340 by paper ticket or ¥2,322 by IC card. The 1-Day pass is ¥2,400.

Out and back to one stop: no

An Otsuki–Shimoyoshida return is ¥1,960 and an Otsuki–Fujisan return ¥2,080. Both are under ¥2,400.

One stop on the way to Kawaguchiko: just

Otsuki to Shimoyoshida ¥980, on to Kawaguchiko ¥310, back to Otsuki ¥1,170: ¥2,460. The pass saves ¥60, or ¥43 against IC fares (¥977 + ¥305 + ¥1,161 = ¥2,443).

Two stops: yes

Add a stop at Fujisan Station on the way back (¥230 plus ¥1,040 instead of ¥1,170) and the day costs ¥2,560, or ¥2,545 by IC card. The pass saves ¥160, or ¥145.

Based at Kawaguchiko: rarely

A Kawaguchiko–Shimoyoshida return is ¥620 by paper ticket. Four returns in one day total ¥2,480, just over the ¥2,400 pass price.

Two days: the 2-Day pass

¥2,500 for the start day and the next. A direct Otsuki return spread over two days is still cheaper at ¥2,340; with paper tickets, one extra ride of ¥180 or more covers the difference.

Express both ways: the Limited Express pass

Car 3 of the Fujisan Express or Fujisan View Express between Otsuki and Kawaguchiko, both ways, costs the ¥1,170 fare plus a ¥400 express charge each way, ¥3,140. The pass is ¥3,000.

Ropeway too: Rail & Rope

An Otsuki return plus the ropeway’s current ¥1,000 return fare is ¥3,340; the coupon is listed at ¥2,700. The ropeway’s own fare rises to ¥1,200 on 1 November, so check the coupon price for a November date before buying.

The money is small either way. A day pass is worth it only when your planned rides add up to more than its price; if you are going straight to Kawaguchiko and back, tap an IC card.

Do Fujikyu passes cover the Fuji Excursion and the express trains?

Express trains cost extra on the 1-Day, 2-Day and Rail & Rope tickets. They cover local trains; on the Fuji Excursion, the Fujisan Express or the Fujisan View Express you need an express ticket on top. The one Fuji Excursion exception: between Fujisan and Kawaguchiko, Fujikyu says an ordinary fare ticket alone lets you use a vacant seat. On Fujikyu’s own fare chart, the Fuji Excursion’s limited express charge for Otsuki–Kawaguchiko is ¥600, and ¥1,620 for the whole run from Shinjuku.

On the Fujisan Express and Fujisan View Express, Fujikyu’s chart gives the express charge station by station: ¥400 for Otsuki–Shimoyoshida, Otsuki–Fujisan, Otsuki–Fuji-Q Highland and Otsuki–Kawaguchiko; ¥200 for Otsuki–Tsuru Bunka Daigaku-mae, for Tsuru Bunka Daigaku-mae to Shimoyoshida, Fujisan, Fuji-Q Highland or Kawaguchiko, and for Shimoyoshida to Fujisan, Fuji-Q Highland or Kawaguchiko; and no express charge between Fujisan, Fuji-Q Highland and Kawaguchiko. Reserved seats add ¥200 (cars 1 and 2 of the Fujisan Express, car 2 of the Fujisan View Express), and the Fujisan View Express special car, car 1, adds ¥1,000. Those seat charges apply whenever you use those cars.

The Limited Express Free Pass includes unreserved seats in car 3 of the Fujisan Express and Fujisan View Express. It does not include the Fuji Excursion: its page says you still need a reserved-seat express ticket or a seat-unassigned ticket for that train. For a journey entirely within the Fujikyu line, only seat-unassigned tickets are sold; seats can be reserved only on journeys that include JR. Fuji Excursion express tickets are sold through JR East’s Eki-net, which Fujikyu’s sales pages link to.

Local trains need only a pass, a ticket or an IC card. The first trains of the day, and the mornings when they catch Fuji’s pink dawn light, are in our Beni-Fuji first-train guide; our Matterhorn train page explains how to catch the line’s repainted Swiss-themed train.

Is the Fujikyu line covered by the JR Pass?

The Japan Rail Pass is not valid on the Fujikyu line. The official JR Pass site lists the Fuji Excursion among JR trains that run onto other companies’ lines, with Ōtsuki–Kawaguchiko as the section on the Fujikyu Railway where “extra fares or fees will be required”. With a JR Pass, the Fujikyu stretch of the Fuji Excursion costs the ¥1,170 fare plus the ¥600 express charge on Fujikyu’s chart. A 1-Day or 2-Day pass can stand in for the fare; the express charge stays.

JR East’s JR TOKYO Wide Pass is different. It costs ¥16,000 for three consecutive days, and its conditions include “all Fujikyu Railway” lines, with the Fuji Excursion among its reserved-seat trains. For the Fujikyu line, JR East’s note lists extra fees for reserved seats on the Fujisan Express and Fujisan View Express and for the Fuji Tozan Densha (currently suspended). If you hold one, you do not need a Fujikyu rail pass. Whether either JR pass is worth buying for the rest of your trip is in our JR Pass versus individual tickets maths.

Arriving at Kawaguchiko by highway bus: which pass?

If you arrive at Kawaguchiko Station on a highway bus from Shinjuku or from Haneda or Narita, choose your local transport by where you plan to go. The lake shore, the ropeway, Saiko and the lava caves are on Fujikyu Bus sightseeing routes; the train goes to Shimoyoshida, Fujiyoshida and Fuji-Q Highland. The sightseeing buses charge by section, from ¥180 a ride for an adult, so compare the fares for your stops with the passes below, and buy a rail ticket separately for a short train trip.

Red, Green and Blue Lines

1-Day ¥1,500, 2-Day ¥2,000. The Kawaguchiko shore, Saiko, Narusawa, Shojiko and Motosu, plus route buses in the same area except the Shibazakura shuttle. JR East’s English pages call them the Excursion Retro Bus. Sold at the Kawaguchiko Station bus window, 6:30 to 19:00, on board (1-Day only) and online.

Fujikko-go

1-Day ¥1,800, 2-Day ¥2,200. Fujiyoshida, Oshino Hakkai and Lake Yamanaka, from Kawaguchiko Station, 11 runs a day. The 2-Day pass sold online also covers the express bus between Kawaguchiko and Oshino Hakkai.

Passport, bus set: ¥3,300

Two days of both bus networks plus trains Shimoyoshida–Kawaguchiko; not valid on highway buses, the Town Sneaker, the Umagaeshi bus or the Fuji climbing buses. Bought separately, the 2-Day lake pass, the 2-Day Fujikko-go and a Shimoyoshida return come to ¥4,820; without the Fujikko-go, ¥2,620.

All-Inclusive: ¥3,000

One day of the Red, Green and Blue Lines, the Fujikko-go, parallel route buses and trains Kawaguchiko–Shimoyoshida, plus one shop voucher. If you will not use the Fujikko-go, a 1-Day lake-bus pass and a paper-ticket Shimoyoshida return total ¥2,120; decide whether the voucher is worth the extra ¥880 to you.

Lake Kawaguchi Circular Pass: ¥3,300

The ropeway, a trip on the Appare sightseeing boat or the Oishi Park Line boat, and two days on the Red, Green and Blue Lines. Sold at the ropeway, the boat pier and Fujikyu’s Kawaguchiko Station. A ropeway-and-boat set without the buses is ¥1,700.

The ropeway’s own return fare is ¥1,000 until 31 October and ¥1,200 from Sunday 1 November 2026. It closes early for inspections on 21–22 October and 25–26 November, with the last ride up at 15:00, and lists a planned closure from 7 to 18 December 2026 for its annual inspection. Check operating dates before buying a ropeway package. The views and the new terrace at the top are in our Panoramic Ropeway guide.

Staying near Kawaguchiko Station

If you are staying overnight, a hotel within walking distance of the station can make train and bus connections easier.

Kawaguchiko is not the only base: Kawaguchiko or Fujiyoshida compares the two towns, both on the line.

Where do you buy Fujikyu passes, and can you use your phone?

Buy the 1-Day Free Pass, 2-Day Free Pass or Rail & Rope Coupon on Fujiyama Connect, Fujikyu’s ticket site. The Fuji-Q set is bought through the link on Fujikyu’s set-ticket page.

Where each pass is sold

  • 1-Day, 2-Day and Rail & Rope: online only, as e-tickets. Screenshots and printouts cannot be used. Web sales close at 18:00 on the day of use, and 1-Day or 2-Day passes bought together for several people must be used together.
  • Passport: the rail set at the Fujikyu Railway counter at Otsuki; both sets at the Fujikyu Bus windows at Fujisan, Kawaguchiko and Mori no Eki Asahigaoka at Lake Yamanaka, and at Mishima, Fujinomiya and Gotemba stations. The rail set is also in Jorudan’s Japan Transit Planner app as the “Fujikyu Rail & Bus Pass”.
  • Limited Express Free Pass: the pass page lists counters at six stations, Otsuki included, under a heading that reads “Mobile tickets”, so confirm with Fujikyu before relying on buying it at Otsuki. The same pass is sold in the Jorudan app as the “Fujikyu Express Pass”.
  • All-Inclusive: Kawaguchiko, Fuji-Q Highland and Fujisan stations, and the bus windows at Kawaguchiko and Fujisan.
  • Sightseeing-bus passes: the Kawaguchiko Station bus window, on board (1-Day passes) or online.

Fujikyu lists the 1-Day Free Pass as online-only. Buy the e-ticket before you reach the platform at Otsuki, and make sure you can open the live ticket on Fujiyama Connect when asked. The sales information I checked does not say whether a purchased ticket can be shown offline.

A day pass is valid only on the date you pick, so choose a day when the mountain is likely to show. I check it from Fujiyoshida every morning.

Fujikyu passes: short answers

Is the Fujikyu 1-Day Free Pass valid for two days?

Plan on one day. The English summaries on Fujikyu’s list page and pass page say “for two days”, but the English and Japanese validity fields say only the start date, and the sales page says the specified date only. I found no published rule on which wording takes precedence; if in doubt, ask Fujikyu before buying. The 2-Day Free Pass, ¥2,500, covers the start day and the next.

Can I buy the Fujikyu 1-Day Free Pass at Otsuki Station?

Fujikyu lists it as sold online only (インターネット限定販売), as an e-ticket on Fujiyama Connect, until 18:00 on the day of use. The Passport rail set is listed as sold at the Fujikyu Railway counter at Otsuki.

Does a Fujikyu pass cover the Fuji Excursion?

The 1-Day, 2-Day, Limited Express, Rail & Rope, Passport rail set and Fuji-Q set tickets cover the base fare between Otsuki and Kawaguchiko. A separate Fuji Excursion express ticket is required; on Fujikyu’s chart it is ¥600 for that section. Between Fujisan and Kawaguchiko only, Fujikyu says an ordinary fare ticket alone lets you use a vacant seat. The Passport bus set and the All-Inclusive Ticket cover rail travel only between Shimoyoshida and Kawaguchiko.

Can I use the Japan Rail Pass on the Fujikyu line?

No. The JR Pass takes you to Otsuki; the Fujikyu line is a separate railway, and the official JR Pass site lists Ōtsuki–Kawaguchiko as a section needing extra fares or fees on the Fuji Excursion. JR East’s JR TOKYO Wide Pass, ¥16,000 for three days, does include the Fujikyu line.

Can I use Suica on the Fujikyu line?

Yes. Suica, PASMO and the other nationwide IC cards work, and IC fares are often slightly lower: ¥1,161 instead of ¥1,170 from Otsuki to Kawaguchiko, or ¥2,322 for the return. You cannot break an IC journey; each stop you get off at means a new fare.

Is the Rail & Rope Coupon valid for two days?

Yes, on both language versions: the day of first use and the following day. It costs ¥2,700 and adds one Panoramic Ropeway return to two days of local trains between Otsuki and Kawaguchiko. It is sold online only. The sales page gives conflicting cancellation instructions: one section rules out cancellations after purchase, while another allows cancellation without a fee until the day before travel. Confirm the applicable terms with the seller before paying. A separate clause provides for a refund of the ropeway portion if it is suspended all day on both valid days.
