Go if

You want a lively night with young Fukuoka locals, good tacos and the lights over the river. It’s easy to go on your own: the owner speaks English and likes to talk.

Skip if

You want a quiet drink. Feliz is lively, closer to a party than a cocktail bar, though you can still hold a conversation. Fridays and Saturdays are the busiest.

How to book

Book for barbecue or hamayaki

Barbecue courses and hamayaki (November to March) need a booking. In October 2026 Hot Pepper listed barbecue plans but no hamayaki course, so for hamayaki ask your hotel to call Feliz (see below). For drinks and tacos, walk in, except on Thursdays before 20:00 or when the bar is booked out for a party. Hot Pepper is in Japanese.

What to orderTacos made properly

Yuki researched tacos before he put them on the menu, and they taste like the real thing: corn tortillas with a good level of heat, at a fair price. I had them with beer and a mojito on my first visit. They’re the dish Feliz itself recommends first. If you’re hungrier, the menu also has a Hakata-style mentaiko cream pasta (¥1,500) and fish and chips (¥1,000).

Then came the tequila. Feliz keeps a shelf of board games from abroad, and the house rule at our table was that the loser drinks. I lost several times.

The spaceA rooftop you can use in the rain

The terrace has a roof and heating and cooling, so it works in the rainy season and in August heat. Across the river you see the hotel signs and lights of Nakasu, Fukuoka’s nightlife district on an island in the river. Inside there’s a long bar, sofas, a pool table and darts under the neon. The barbecue runs all year: you grill meat, sausages and vegetables at your own table.

From November to March, Feliz also serves oden, a Japanese dish made with ingredients simmered in broth, and hamayaki, seafood cooked on a tabletop grill. Hamayaki needs a booking.

My second visit was a friend’s wedding after-party. Feliz is a popular place for private parties, so the whole bar is sometimes booked for a private event. If you’re going on a weekend, a quick look at Instagram saves a wasted trip.

Ask the ownerYuki knows where to go next

Yuki managed an apparel shop before he opened Feliz. He knows Fukuoka’s nightlife well. Nakasu is just across the river, and that’s where he’ll send you next: the yatai food stalls along the water, izakaya under the neon, and ramen to end the night. If it’s your first night in Fukuoka, start here and ask him.
